Intro to Snuffy

I am the other half of the weight loss prop bet. To be honest I have way the worst of this bet. If I lose 10% of my total weight I would be down to 180. I would b more than happy with that. To be honest I would be happy with getting down to 185. When I ran my half marathon back in December 2005 I think I was around 188 lbs. I was a little heavier than I wanted to be but I had a lot more muscle back then too.

My goal in entering this bet is not to win actually. I wanted to motivate Jerry to get at it and give him a little motivation. That being said I hope neither of us lose, and neither of us will. We will both be in better shape at the end of this.

I haven't ate too well in the first week and a half of the bet. I have however beet running quite a bit. I am on a routine of running 3 days and taking 1 day off. I am up to 10k per day when I run now. I think I want to find a 10k to run around Christmas time, another around the end of February and then a half marathon around the end of March or early April. One possibility is the week in St. Louis when Jerry is planning on running the 5k. They have a marathon and a half marathon the following day.

Here's to better health..............

Time to Take Control of My Life

Over the past few months, I have been fat dumb and happy. I abandoned my weight loss program, due to being lazy and not wanting to meal plan.

I had good success playing poker and wanted to play more and more in order to maximize my profits. I found myself letting my chores slide as I gained more weight. I found myself getting tired more often and even running out of breath while climbing stairs. Oh and my knees started hurting.

On Saturday the bottom came into focus, we spent 7 hours in a car getting our new puppy. We drove to a town called Atoka, OK to get the dog from a friend of my wife who lives in Texas.

We had a great lunch with their family at a little Mexican Restaurant. The food was great, but the portions were HUGE, I was the first one done with my burrito, I think I ate a bowl of chips. This may not be all THAT bad but we had eaten breakfast less the 3 hours before.

I was never at one point comfortable while driving. Also unless you are heavy you do not understand this, but I am walking belly first, if I lose just 20 lbs that goes away.

We got home at 5:15 PM we had a beer and headed to dinner at some friends house. We had a curry dish, and pie with pudding over it (I think it is a British thing) the food was GREAT! However I was not hungry but ate anyway (who wants to be rude)… I did of course have seconds on the Curry.

I woke up Sunday and went to the gym, I felt better, but lunch was Wendy’s. (I did limit myself to only a single). Monday, I really feel pretty good about my eating as a whole, just not as healthy as I need.

Today, headed to the gym at lunch for a work out. I am eating healthier.

I told my son, something that I read once… Nothing tastes as good as being in shape feels. Time to feel that good again!

Oh and as I write this my wife calls and says she just bought me 3 new shirts, they are 3X because “I have to admit most of my 2X shirts don’t fit anymore”. This revelation is depressing.

Time to fix this…. Que the theme to Rocky…..

Weight loss Challenge

Since I cannot seem to motivate myself to stay on a diet, Snuffy and I have started a weight loss prop bet. Week one is done, and I have stayed the same weight. This is good because with the holiday and what not, I did not work pay much attention to my diet.

I started back in earnest on Sunday and went to the gym. Today I have paid attention and seem to be heading down the proper path.

As far the bet, we get 50% equity in the other in a live tournament. I think I have the best opportunity to lose by percentage the most weight, I have the most to lose, and by April I can lose more the 10% of my body weight.

I have a fitness goal as well…. Run a 5K race in April a half Marathon next April.

Time to Run Fat Boy Run.

End of Week 2 -9 Lbs.

I have lost a total of 9 pounds, I am feeling really good. Everything seems to be going along smoothly.  I can feel myself getting into shape.  As of right now I have not had any real issues sticking to the plan.

I did work out hard this week.  Spinning Tuesday and Thursday, I lifted weights on Wednesday took Friday off and Saturday had a monster workout.  I lifted and did 45 min on the Stairmaster.

I think I am most proud of myself about Sunday, I work up sore and physically tired.  I decided not I was not going to work out that day.  By the afternoon I was feeling better and could not stand not doing something, so off to the gym I went and did 30 min on the Stairmaster.

I am really starting to feel it. The more I do the better I feel… Just need to keep on keeping on.

Losing Weight

I have lost another 3.5 lbs this week. I feel really good. I did start lifting weights on Wednesday. The spinning class is going well, in fact seems to be getting easier as I now have 4 classes under my belt.

I have certain weight thresholds, where things change, when I cross “X” weight I drop a pant size etc… I thought I knew all of them, but I was wrong. 2lbs ago I crossed one, my clothes fit me better, and I am able to do a few things that had become a challenge.

The next one will not be for 20LBS, but I am looking forward to it.

Right now I am motivated as my results are showing quickly and I can actually feel myself getting into shape. Funny the more fat you have the less you can do, the less you should do at any one time. Just more often. As I lose weight the more I do easier.

Time to get the “extra” me off.

Misc. Stuff:

Week One if the diet went well over all -6 lbs. I was not perfect on the diet this weekend. I will take the 6 pounds.

I was not perfect due to Saturday being my 17th Wedding Anniversary. We took the kids to Bikes, Blues and BBQ on Saturday and then to Blu Fin for sushi. I was not bad on at the Bike Rally, but the sushi was a little different. Some of the sushi was fried and I had wasabi with soy sauce, even though it was low sodium, it still had way too much sodium.

BBG

The state I currently reside in is stepping into the 20th century, today begins the sale of lottery tickets, no shit they were not allowed until today, now if they will only allow us to buy beer.

I have started to look at the nutritional facts on food a lot more then I use to. I am taking my diet serious. When my in-laws were in town we went the local Zaxby’s Restaurant. My wife and in-laws had the Fried Chicken Salad while I had a chicken sandwich and fries, I felt like they were looking at me as if to say that I should be eating “healthier” well the truth is I was! Their salad had 50 grams of fat.

Our gym has installed a few weight lifting machines just for kids. You can only use them if you are between the ages if 10 and 15. Two of the three kids are that age. Tonight they have a class that teaches them to use the machines and then they will be going to the gym with us and working out.

Sunday was no day of rest, I did sleep later then I had in years. I went to the gym, Sam’s Club for food and then cut the grass. I watched very little football. (Next Sunday is sloth mode and football all day).

Biggest Loser and Starting a Diet

I have 3 days completed following the Weight Watchers Program as I write this, I have lost 5lbs. The first week of any diet is always the best time, you are motivated, you get results quickly as your body expels the water weight, but that does not mean you are really losing any real weight.

The rapid start is always a good thing, but the constant trips to the bathroom are a challenge, seems like I am heading that direction every 20 to 30 minutes.

Tracey and I like to watch the Biggest Loser, I found the Tuesday episode interesting, the contestants were entering the 2nd week of the diet/exercise program, and they had a team challenge to lose a combined 150LBS (15 people are left in the competition). The trainers had concerns about the contestants making the goal due to it being the 2nd week of the program and their bodies go into shock from all the changes and do not lose as much weight, then it picks back up in week three. I found this very interesting, now I not on the same program as they are, I do not have that many hours a day available to me to work out for that many hours a day. I should expect the same slow down.

The key for me, in my opinion, is to get into the routine of eating well, exercising regularly, and generally taking responsibility for my own well being.

Spinning was the challenge I expected, I am still sore from the routine, but I will be there tonight, sweating my ass off.
